Garage Wall Shelving

If you’re trying to add shelving to your garage, this is what I use.

Back in 2016, when I built my first wash bay, I had a hard time finding shelving that looked right and could actually hold up in a proper garage setup. Most of what I found was either flimsy, ugly, or made for a laundry room. I eventually found a company making custom shelving for restaurants and worked with them to get what I needed.

We’ve come a long way since then.

We designed these shelves ourselves because I wanted something cleaner, stronger, and easier to install. The sizing is intentional. These are made to land on standard wall studs without having to fight the layout.

If your garage has 16-inch on-center studs, use the 18-inch, 34-inch, or 50-inch wide shelves.

If your garage has 24-inch on-center studs, use the 26-inch or 50-inch wide shelves.

This version is finished in black powder coat. It looks especially good next to a black cabinet array, especially something like Sonic MSS+. That was the goal. I wanted the shelf finish to feel like it belonged in the same garage, not like some random bracket shelf from a big box store.

For most detailing setups, I prefer the 8-inch deep shelves. They fit Pressol bottles really well and keep the wall from feeling bulky. If you use a lot of CarPro or Griot’s bottles, step up to the 10-inch deep version. Those bottles need a little more room, and I’d rather size the shelf correctly than have bottles hanging off the edge.

The 8 x 18-inch shelf is also the size I’d use for most wall-mounted pressure washer setups. It gives you enough space for the machine without taking over the wall.

Sizing Guide

16-inch on-center studs: 18", 34", or 50" wide shelves
24-inch on-center studs: 26" or 50" wide shelves
Best all-around detailing depth: 8"
Best for larger bottles: 10"
Best pressure washer shelf size: 8" x 18"

My Take

This is the shelf I wish existed when I was building my first wash bay. It is clean, properly sized, easy to install, and built for the kind of garage where the details actually matter.
